Poem: The Realist

They say dream big no matter what you’re going through,

Don’t matter how hard it is or what you gotta do,

We were born dreaming, but all I’ve ever seen when I close my eyes is dark,

No, I’m not a pessimist –  I’m just saying it as it is,

I’m keeping it real sorry if the truth is stark,

I don’t know what it is, but I hope I’ll find out,

The sooner, the better in that I have no doubt,

I want to see and try it all,

Want to taste the sky, before I remember the fall,

I may not know where I want to be,

I just want to enjoy being me,

I know it isn’t in the stars,

It isn’t healthy to dream of too high bars,

You can’t want it all,

When your court doesn’t have control of the ball.
